THE LOVE STORY THAT ENDED IN THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA.

Out of the back of their van, they shared love and they made Art. Marina & Ulay became the one man band, “the other”.

But when their relationship broke down, instead of throwing it away, they marked the sadness of the occasion with an expression of ever-lasting love. Each at one end of the Great Wall of China, they retraced the steps of their relationship until finally meeting in the middle. With one last hug, the “other” split forever to embark upon their lives, free of each other.

But forever became erased in 2010, during the MoMa retrospective ‘The Artist is Present’. Abramovic  performed her piece spending a minute of silence staring into the eyes of a complete stranger. Before each meeting she would shut her eyes, as if to absorb what she had experienced and ingrain it into her memory. Look what happened when she re-opened them…

Powerful.
